The Maine Coast Harp Institute Teacher’s Forum
August 12-13, 2022
For most, teaching is much more than a job; it is a passion. The responsibility of guiding, nurturing, and launching students is tremendously meaningful, but the process can be complex and the journey of sharing one’s knowledge can be an education in itself.
The MCHI Teacher’s Forum provides a friendly, conversational space to share, troubleshoot, support, delve into the challenges, and celebrate the joys of one of the world’s most rewarding professions.
On the registration form, teachers will be asked to rank their interest in a variety of topics and suggest any areas of discussion that they may find particularly relevant or helpful. The Forum Topic Outline will be customized and strongly driven by the interests of participants.
Discussion topics may include:
Foundational Methods for New Harpists
Fostering Consistent Work Habits
Structuring Layered Learning
Dealing With Students Under Pressure
Helping Students Out of a Slump
Repertoire Selection
Audition Preparation
Supporting and Advising Parents
Managing Different Learning Attitudes
Protecting Students from Injury
Teaching Respect and Good Protocols
Mapping Students’ Learning Styles
Balancing Student and Teacher Responsibilities
At the conclusion of the day’s sessions on August 13, dinner and beverages will be served until the last lobster is eaten and the fresh, sea air leads us all off to bed.
If teachers have a student or students enrolled in the ten-day MCHI session, they are welcome to arrive as early as Wednesday, August 10, and participate in their student’s last private lesson. This is a great opportunity to touch base on progress and sync up strategies for the coming year of work when the student returns home.
All teachers are welcome to arrive as early as Wednesday, August 10, and observe group classes, relax, enjoy the setting, and attend the Friday night recital and closing party.
